Edmonton, AB – Dave Harback, Sales Associate with Sutton Group – North Star Realty is appealing to his community and fellow real estate agents to help put a roof over the heads of a growing number of homeless Canadians.   Working with the national charity, “Raising the Roof”, Dave Harback is bringing Toque Tuesday fundraising events to Edmonton.   Homelessness is an important industry-related issue and Dave hopes that more offices will get involved in selling the $10 toques with proceeds to benefit local grassroots organizations.

“It is fitting for our Sutton office and for the real estate industry as a whole to get involved in this important issue,” says Dave.   “Our business is shelter – whether that means helping people buy and sell homes or helping those in dire need to find shelter.”   Dave is actively trying to increase awareness of the program and the charity.   He has been successful in implementing Toque Tuesday sales at his office and hopes next year the event will include agents from every local real estate company.   ”The support from my fellow Sutton Realtors has been good and we are aiming at raising $1,000 this first year as the program is in its infancy.”

The well known “Raising The Roof” program is the only national charity dedicated to finding long-term solutions for homelessness.   The most visible problem – people living on the streets – is the just a glimpse of the real issue.   Approximately 80 percent of homeless people are the ‘hidden homeless’ – the youth, adults, families and seniors who move from friend to friend and relative to relative as they look for affordable housing.   Some parents must put their children in the care of Children’s Aid Societies because they cannot afford to care for them.   Raising the Roof is trying to stop the alarming growth rate of families and children who are becoming homeless.   For more information, please visit: www.Raisingtheroof.org
