A Night of Hope, a Life of Dreams
Richmond, BC – Marilyn Rahn, of Sutton Group – Langara Realty is a survivor who lives her dreams. Recently diagnosed and treated for colon cancer stage IV, she embarked on a difficult journey of becoming educated about her condition and coping with the realities of the disease. Too late, she discovered that there was a history of colon cancer in her family, but due to the ’stigma’ and adversity to check-ups like colonoscopies, it was never talked about in her family. Enlightened by her personal discoveries, Marilyn now lends her expertise to a new community at the Cancer Centre to raise awareness about colon cancer, as well as supporting the Centre for Integrated Healing which uses natural methods and organic foods to rebuild strength in cancer patients.
“Marilyn is always involved in doing something to help out others,” says Greg Rahn, Broker/Owner of Sutton Group – Langara Realty. ”It was time for her to get some help in return.” In addition to her busy career as a residential Realtor, Marilyn makes the dreams of others come true, gives to her community, and supports the causes that she believes in. Marilyn surrounds herself with other likeminded driven achievers with a cause, like Judi Miller who has founded ” Night of Hope” fundraiser in Richmond a guaranteed sell-out fashion show and networking event. This year, A Nite of Hope raised approximately $175,000 for breast cancer awareness, research and treatment.
“This community event gives people a sense of awareness – that is why I wanted to get involved and have sponsored this event year after year,” comments Marilyn. “It gives me, as a business woman, exposure at an event and with people I believe in and want to do business with. It gives me a chance to give back and support those that I feel are driven for a worthy cause. I have survived cancer this last year and thanks to my determination and the incredible generosity and spirit of my husband, I am a survivor. I will give of my time now to raise awareness of colon cancer with the Cancer Centre. I will continue to do fundraising for organizations which I am involved in such as the Richmond Country Club. But now, I will say no to helping with everything that moves me as I have to reserve my energy. I want to focus on those causes that I am most passionate about.”
