Sutton Realtor® Gives Back Through Music
Lindsay, ON – For over 50 years, Jack Roberts of Sutton Group – All Pro Realty Inc.*, has been giving back to his community through music. Jack has been playing the 2nd soprano horn (bugle) and has been involved in the drum and bugle corps since he was a child. A drum and bugle corps is a musical group that consists of brass, percussion, and color guard (a group of performers who handle the flags and other props to enhance the performance). Jack juggles both being the Broker of Record for his offices and an active member of the Optimists Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps.
Jack began his drum & bugle corps career at the young age of 9. He learned to play the bugle in the Grantham Police Boys’ Band. In his teens, he joined the Toronto Optimists Drum & Bugle Corps, who were Canadian National Champions for 11 consecutive years. Jack spent the next 35 years involved in the corps as a Marching & Maneuvering (M&M) Judge for the Canadian Judges and DCI Judges Associations. He then continued to teach, drill and judge until the 90’s, when he took a few years off. In 2005, he reconnected with the Toronto Optimists, with whom he’d played over 40 years earlier, and joined the Optimists Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps. “Travelling, marching and playing music together as youngsters helped form a bond that is strong as family”, commented Susan Roberts, Jack’s wife and Realtor® for Sutton Group – All Pro Realty Inc.*
Today, the Alumni Corps performs all around Ontario in parades, band festivals, charity events and contests. The Corps participated in the Achilles Run for Charity in Toronto, Toronto’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Simcoe, and the Canada Day Parade in Glenns Falls, to name a few. On July 28th, 2007, the Corps will perform at the 150th Anniversary of Lindsay Celebration Parade at Victoria Park in Lindsay, Ontario. Sutton Group – All Pro Realty Inc.* is a major sponsor for the parade. Jack tries not to let his corps activities interfere with running a brokerage. “Jack takes time out of his busy schedule to be a part of the corps”, says Susan. “He serves in community service clubs in an effort to revive the community spirit through parades and band performances..nothing stirs the spirit like a marching band!”
This year, the Optimists Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps are celebrating their 60th year. Members of the Corps range from 17 to 75 years of age and attend weekly rehearsals and bi-weekly practices. A few members travel 7 hours to rehearse. To learn more about the Optimists Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps please visit www.optimists-alumni.org.
Jack holds strong ties with his community and is dedicated to giving back. “Drum Corps has helped Jack throughout his life to put things into perspective”, expressed Susan. “Realtors®, just like performers in a corps should become the best they can be..they should believe that their achievements are important to the success of their brokerage and that serving their community will help them succeed.”
