Mississauga, ON – When the charitable organizing committee at Sutton Group – Summit Realty Inc.*, announced they would hold a luncheon featuring a silent auction and raffle to benefit a variety of charities, in particular those assisting children in foster care and shelters, REALTORS® Heather Sorenson and Vince Carnovale were amazed by the generosity of everyone involved. Prizes flooded in from colleagues and their family members, Broker of Record Brian Maguire, a mortgage broker, and other local businesses. The December event raised $2,000, which helped to brighten the holidays for many in need.

“One of the main charities we support is the Children’s Aid Society,” says Heather. “They provide support to children living in foster homes and group homes. Each year, they hold a toy drive and set up ‘toy rooms’ in local schools, where people can drop off gifts. The social workers told us that they often have a shortage of gifts for teenagers, which is heartbreaking because they are already going through such a difficult time without feeling forgotten at Christmastime. So with most of the money we raised from the luncheon, we purchased gift certificates to stores that teenagers typically like.”

“We also support a local woman’s shelter called Interim Place, the Kids Help Phone, Peel Children’s Centre and the Breakfast with Santa Foundation established by the Mississauga News. The newspaper often helps us out with fundraisers like the recent silent auction and raffle; they gave us a dinner and show package.”

Among the other major prizes were Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Raptors tickets, jewellery handmade by the wife of one of the REALTORS®, and a suite and breakfast at the Deerhurst Resort. Broker of Record Brian Maguire donated an extra night’s stay to make it a two-night package at the resort.

The holiday luncheon is just one of the ways that Sutton Group – Summit Realty Inc.* gives back to their community. “We have an umbrella organization called Summit Cares,” says Heather. “Some REALTORS® donate a portion of their commissions to Summit Cares. Some give us a lump sum once a year. Others buy raffle tickets or donate prizes. Everyone has their own way of making a contribution. Since we began the charitable organization five years ago, we have raised more than $58,000.”
