Halifax, NS – A fateful accident and loss of a loved one has prompted Thomas Majcan, a REALTOR® with Sutton Group – Professional Realty to arrange a benefit concert for the Brain Injury Association of Alberta (BIAA). Although Thomas and much of his family live in Nova Scotia, he will be travelling to Red Deer to perform since this is where his brother was injured. During the six days that Thomas and his family spent at their brother’s hospital bedside, they quickly realized the importance of the BIAA’s support and friendship. The Dillon Brothers band’s benefit concert on March 21 will help other families who have the same experience. When a loved one suffers a brain injury, accommodation and travel expenses are a burden added to a family’s grief.

“When our Brother Rick succumbed to a brain injury last September, I contacted the Brain Injury Association of Alberta to advise them that we could plan an event, in support of the families of the injured,” says Thomas. “It was a way of helping with closure and making a positive difference in people’s lives. We experienced firsthand the dynamics of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and families that were affected deeply.”

No one can predict when a tragic accident might occur. Thomas’ brother Rick was operating heavy equipment for Petro Can in the early hours, with heavy rain and limited visibility when somehow, his vehicle rolled on its side over a muddy embankment. He went through the other side of the cab, sustaining a head injury and broken neck. Rick was rushed to hospital. For six days, his family was at his side hoping that each sign of movement was a sign that he was regaining consciousness. During that time, family members arrived, stayed in hotels and made many calls to friends and relatives back home. In the end, Rick passed away and they took him home. The experience left Thomas with great empathy for the suffering of other families and a desire to help.

As a professional musician, who plays guitar and sings in the Dillon Brothers band with his brothers, the idea of performing to benefit BIAA was a natural choice. On March 21, Thomas will perform with his brothers David on bass and vocal and Tony on guitar, vocals and accordion. Other band members and brothers Paul and Joe are unable to attend. The audience can expect a lively mixture of Country, Rock n’ Roll, R & B, Celtic, Blues and Classic Rock and “some unexpected surprises”. “You are guaranteed a great night of entertainment,” says Thomas. “Just ask Alan Hennigar, my Broker in Halifax.”

Tickets and upcoming venue details are available through the BIAA at 4916 50th Street in Red Deer and by phone: (403) 309-0866. Sponsorship is needed. Sponsors will receive complimentary tickets, signed CDs and acknowledgement in advertisements for the event.
