REALTORS® Raise Funds for Alzheimer Society York Region’s New Website

Newmarket, ON – REALTOR® Michelle Haick of Sutton Group – Future Realty Inc.* explains “it all started with Rob McCrudden, our Broker of Record” who suggested in lieu of a Christmas dinner and dance he would make a donation to a worthy cause within their community which they all live and work. The 100 plus REALTORS® of Sutton Group – Future Realty Inc.* all jumped on board with this idea, each adding to the total by making a personal contribution.

As a result of the personal contributions made by the REALTORS® a grand total of $10,000 was raised. The next step was to determine which organization in the community would be the recipient of this generous donation. They set out looking for a local community charity that had a specific project in mind which would require these funds. Michelle Haick along with, her fellow REALTOR® committee members, Rory Campbell and Peter Humick began making phone calls. After much deliberation they decided to offer their $10,000 donation to the Alzheimer Society York Region, who would use the contribution towards developing a new website.

The committee led by Michelle felt strongly that this project would have a positive effect on the community. “So many people in the office have been touched by this disease, and we felt by choosing to contribute to this charity we would make an impact on a diverse range of people,” says Michelle. She also noted that Alzheimer’s is an “up and coming concern”; 1 in every 11 adults in Canada over the age of 65 lives with the disease.

The website will offer pertinent information for those affected by the disease. Additionally, it will promote all their valuable resources including educational programs, support group programs and a daycare program for those suffering from Alzheimer’s, offering support and providing the primary caregiver with respite.
