Sutton Office Continues their Adopt-a-School Program

Victoria, BC – The Adopt-a-School program is a community endeavour that Sutton Group – West Coast Realty, in Victoria, is proud to have initiated last spring. The first school they chose to “adopt” was École Shoreline Community Middle School. The school required funds to complete their community playground. The campaign for this project started in June 2008 and Lynn Van de Kamp, the Office Manager, added, “As of March 1, 2009 we reached our objective of raising $5000 to complete the Shoreline Community playground.” They raised the funds by collecting monthly personal contributions from their REALTORS®. Additionally, they held a BBQ fundraiser for their office staff and REALTORS®.

On May 27, 2009 at 1pm, Sutton members will participate in an assembly at École Shoreline Community Middle School where they will present the $5000 they raised for the playground. There is great anticipation for the new playground; it will provide a place for interactive play and have an important role in the physical and social growth for children in the community.

“We believe kids are our future and we want to participate in community partnerships to make the Greater Victoria Area the best it can be for our future generations,” says Lynn. Blake Moreau, Sutton REALTOR® and Adopt-a-School committee member, also advocates this program, “It is one of the most important things we do in our business as it shows our clientele we care and value the community.” He continues, “Programs like this go beyond real estate; it is about building good foundations in the community.”

The six volunteers on the committee for the Adopt-a-School program are in the process of identifying their next project. Blake notes, “We are currently narrowing down schools in the Victoria area that have a financial need for equipment, services or programs that do not receive funding from their local school board.” The group is looking forward to helping another school very soon.
