Sutton REALTORS® Instrumental in Raising $92,000 for Local Charities

London, ON – Stan Franjkovic, Broker and REALTOR® Lesley Hailstone of Sutton Group – Preferred Realty Inc.* were inspired to turn their energies to their local community after suffering the devastating loss of their son, Michael Franjkovic due to a car accident in 2003. Bryan Wiersma, a close friend to Michael, had passed away a month earlier when he lost his battle with Cancer. Together, the parents, family and friends of Michael and Bryan started the Michael and Bryan Memorial Golf Tournament dedicated to these two young men.

The tournament is now in its 6th year and has raised $92,000 to date, benefiting the Parkhill and North Middlesex Medical Centres, Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital and the Cancer Research Institute at the London Health Sciences Centre. Stan Franjkovic explains “success of this golf tournament with the local community has encouraged our families and friends to continue to provide this opportunity to support these foundations and create meaningful change in the community.”

This year’s tournament will take place at the Sand Hills on June 20, 2009. The goal is to add to the $92,000 they have raised and reach the $100,000 mark. “We are expecting a full house, with 144 golfers, to have fun while helping the community at the same time.” The tournament is supported by family, friends and Sutton REALTORS®, as well as agents from various other realty companies who come together for this worthy cause.

Stan Franjkovic has always found time to give back to his community. His efforts include volunteering with sport and social clubs and staging car washes to raise funds for the Miracle Network Telethon Drive. He and his son, with the support of his community church, organized a food and clothing drive in the early 1990’s to assist his birth country of Bosnia, which was affected by the civil war. Additionally, during his son’s university days in 2001 and 2002 they collected over four tons of food for their local food bank with the help of members from the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. “Helping others has always been a part of our lives and we encourage other REALTORS® to do the same,” adds Stan.
