Whistler, BC – Ed Styffe, a REALTOR® with Sutton Group – West Coast Realty in Whistler, has bequeathed a donation in his will to the Kelty Patrick Dennehy Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to prevent depression-related suicide among young people. Styffe was introduced to this charity by Kerry Dennehy, a friend through real estate, who organized the first annual golf tournament for the Foundation in 2002. Kerry initiated the event in memory of his late son Patrick Dennehy, who suffered from depression and took his own life.

It was that same year that Styffe lost a close friend to suicide. “It had a shocking effect on a lot of people including myself and I don’t believe I will ever fully recover from it,” Ed comments. He adds that when he received the devastating news, “my immediate reaction was to feel physically sick and I was unable to speak to the friend who delivered the message.” He continues, “The memory still brings me to tears. No one should have to go through what parents, families and friends suffer due to depression and suicide.” “That is why I am proud to offer continued support by including a bequest to the Kelty Patrick Dennehy Foundation in my will,” says Styffe.

Bequeathing a donation is a way to reach out and help make a difference. “In a challenging market for REALTORS® it may be difficult to make donations on an ongoing basis but bequeathing allows you to make a significant impact to your favourite charitable organizations for the future,” suggests Styffe. He encourages fellow REALTORS® to speak with their lawyer regarding bequeathing a donation to a cause that has touched them.
