Picton, ON - Linda Middleton, Broker of Record for Sutton Group – Prince Edward County Realty Inc.*, chose to have her waist length hair cut on April 25, 2009. Inspired by the television commercial for the 6/49 Lotto slogan, “Because I Can”, Linda decided to cut her hair for a charitable cause. She asked herself, “How many people have hair long enough to make a wig for a young child going through treatments such as chemotherapy, where they lose their hair? Because I could, I decided to donate my hair!”

She was one of 20 participants in the Angel Hair for Kids TM campaign at a local Wellington barber shop. The campaign was hosted by the organization, A Child’s Voice Foundation. The organization turns the donated hair into wigs for children from financially challenged families who have lost their hair to medical conditions. These include alopecia, burns and cancer chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Linda reveals, “I have cancer stories all around me. My mother had breast cancer two years ago; one of my best friend’s is going through her third bout of breast cancer; another close friend lost a son to cancer; and a REALTOR® in my office is going through her daughter’s second bout with cancer.” She felt this was a way she could make a contribution to a cause that is very close to her heart.

It had been 30 years since Linda’s last hair cut. She explains that when she sat in the barber chair, “I was overcome by emotion, imagining the child that would have my auburn hair and thinking about the trauma and illness she would be going through.” She adds, “I feel good about the choice. I pray for the child who wears my hair in the future. I hope that my strengths, power her to be the best she can be and reach levels of personal success.”
