Red Deer, AB – Neall Stevens, Broker and Owner of Sutton Group – Landmark Realty, spent the entire month of March in Cape Town, South Africa. Stevens spent his time in Cape Town volunteering with the Dibanani AIDS Project. This organization focuses on community service and helps those with AIDS/HIV live healthily with guidance from support groups and education. The Dibanani AIDS Project has received two Gold Certificates from the Cape Town Department of Health recognizing their high quality of work.

Stevens got involved with this project as he sees AIDS/HIV as “one of South Africa’s major issues at this point in time, with little government assistance.” South Africa has the highest incidence of AIDS/HIV in the world; 800-1000 citizens die from the disease and related health complications each day. Additionally, it is estimated that 35% of pregnant women arriving at hospitals for delivery test positive for the disease.

With a background in healthcare and real estate, Neall’s directive for the project is to provide his knowledge and experience. His major role while in South Africa was to meet and work with locals to identify fundraising opportunities and to begin to execute these efforts. Stevens also spent some time working directly with patients, learning and experiencing how the project provides services for the community.

To help with fundraising, the organization is selling CDs for $30 especially recorded for the Dibanani AIDS Project by classical pianist, Victor Tichart. The sale of 365 CDs will fund this organization in its work, to help stop the devastation of AIDS/HIV in Cape Town, for one year.
