Lindsay, ON – On Friday June 26, 2009, Sutton Group – All Pro Realty Inc.* held their 1st Annual Charity BBQ for the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada. The goal of the event was to raise money to buy Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for the community of Kawartha Lakes. New AEDs make it possible for non-medical personnel to restore heart rhythm and life. However, making these units available is challenging due to their high cost of $2000 each.

More than 40,000 Canadian lives are lost each year due to cardiac arrest. Defibrillation improves survival rates by up to 30% if delivered in the first few minutes. Making AEDs easily accessible has the potential to save thousands of lives. The Heart and Stroke Foundation is working diligently to ensure widespread access to these portable devices in homes and workplaces, as well as public areas such as airports, casinos and airplanes.

The fundraiser BBQ was open to the public and there was an overwhelming turn out, with attendees including the Mayor of the City of Kawartha Lakes, a few Counsellors, local REALTORS® and business members. Most of the food and drinks were donated by local businesses. There were also great prizes raffled off, including a barbeque donated by The Brick and Sutton Group – All Pro Realty Inc.* and a golf package from White Tail Golf Course with a value of $200.

Dennis Roberts, Broker of Record for Sutton Group – All Pro Realty Inc.*, explains, “We wanted to do our part to help provide these life-saving devices to the community.” He continues, “The weather co-operated for us, and with the help of donations from local businesses, we raised about $700 over the course of two hours! Next year we hope to raise even more for this great cause.”
