Langley, BC – George Porter , REALTOR® with Sutton Group – West Coast Realty in Langley, along with his wife, Donna, led a team of eight at the Relay for Life. The event was held in Langley on May 22, 2009. Starting at 7pm the relay went through the night and finished twelve hours later at 7am. The team’s objective was to fundraise and fight against cancer as they took turns running or walking the local community track.

George and Donna got actively involved in this event after the devastating loss of their son-in-law last year, Kelly Hall, to cancer at the age of 46. Pronounced “Kelly’s Team” they took on the challenge encouraged by support from friends, family and colleagues. George explains, “The night was a success; we sang, walked and drank a lot of coffee. Even Kelly’s children at the young ages of six, eight and sixteen stayed up for the night. It got pretty cool through the night but we made it.” The support not only came in the form of donations as many friends and family attended the event to urge the team on. One family member even flew in from Saskatchewan for the event.

George concludes, “We were thrilled with the support we received, it is much more than we ever anticipated.” The team’s fundraising efforts saw them raise over $2000 for the Canadian Cancer Society. After experiencing the success of the event, the team of eight has already committed to next year’s event.
