Hamilton, ON – Tammy Loeman, Broker at Sutton Group – Innovative Realty Inc.*, spends seven hours every week in the classroom and gymnasium of a local elementary school. She has been volunteering for four years with schools in her community, helping students with their schoolwork and coaching volleyball.

“Seeing the difference that some time and encouragement can make in these children’s lives is very rewarding,” says Tammy. “I love doing the volunteer work. It gives me a great sense of being involved in the community as well as a personal satisfaction that I am making a difference.”

At St. Michaels School, Tammy works with third graders one-on-one in the classroom. She helps with those struggling with their reading skills and those with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder who require more assistance. She also coaches the boys’ volleyball team, made up of fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth graders. Tammy explains that it is a great opportunity for her to give back to her community while participating in an activity she enjoys.

Without parent volunteers, most schools would not be able to offer as many extracurricular activities or trips. Tammy knew it would be a challenge to juggle business, family and time at the school, but she agreed to take on both the classroom work and the coaching. Her extra efforts have certainly enriched her own life and that of numerous students.
