Chilliwack, BC – On August 8th, REALTORS® from Sutton Group – ShowPlace Realty Ltd. gathered and hauled out hoses, buckets and sponges. They teamed up to host a car wash fundraising event in their office’s parking lot for baby Paige and her family. Paige was diagnosed with Medulloblastomas, a form of childhood cancer, at the young age of two-and-a-half. She has since undergone surgery, at BC Children’s Hospital, to remove a tumour, but Paige still needs to receive high dose Chemotherapy treatment for the next six to eight months. Paige will also have to undergo numerous scans and MRI’s for the rest of her life to ensure that the cancer does not return.

Mike DellaFortuna, REALTOR® and Sutton Spirit Co-ordinator for Sutton Group – Showplace Realty Ltd., initiated this fundraiser when he heard Paige’s story. He had personally experienced a similar situation with his own son who, as a baby, had to make visits to BC Children’s Hospital. Mike wanted to help the family, which has been struggling with their bills; Paige’s mother had to take time off work and the costs of gas for trips to and from the hospital and hotel rooms have added up.

To encourage local support of the event Mike hit the streets delivering over 600 flyers in the community. He was also fortunate to receive some airtime on a local radio station to promote the car wash. Mike explains, “It was phenomenal. I have never seen such a turn-out for a charity car wash. We had line ups five to six cars deep.” To accommodate for the number of cars they even extended the hours of the car wash. The team of REALTORS® had set a target of raising $1000, but were overwhelmed by its success, collecting over $3000 for Paige’s family.
