Picton, ON – Linda Middleton, Broker of Record at Sutton Group – Prince Edward County Realty Inc.*, proudly carried the lit Olympic Torch through her community on December 15, 2009.  Her part of the relay came just prior to it entering the local stadium for their Community Celebration.  She explains, “The most heart warming part of the experience was all the children who were so enthusiastic; they were swarming me to touch the Torch, hold the Torch, or have their picture taken with the Torch.”

The town was selected by the Vancouver Organizing Committee of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games to host a Community Celebration.  Linda volunteered on the committee coordinating this event, which 7000 people attended; this is significant as the town’s population is only 4000.

Linda was chosen to represent her community to be an Olympic Torch bearer for her extensive involvement in the community.  For eleven years, she ran a foster home for emotionally disturbed children.  She has also spent countless hours creating programs like the “Just Friends” initiative which connects volunteers with Developmentally Delayed Adults.  Most recently, with two spare bedrooms at her own home, she has decided to welcome two Developmentally Delayed Adults to provide them with room and board but most importantly care.  Linda concludes, “Although you never expect any return on your volunteer role, to be given this privilege, to carry the Olympic Torch, and have my previous foster children and the Developmentally Delayed Adults out there to cheer me on, was so, so emotional, as it was all for them!”
