Sutton REALTOR® Comes to the Aid of Children in Distress
Langley, BC – The 2.4 million children who have called into the Kids Help Phone lines over the past 20 years are Jill Sinclair’s inspiration. They are the reason this REALTOR® with Sutton Group – West Coast Realty in Langley began volunteering and fundraising. She enthusiastically gathered support for the ninth annual 5-kilometre Walk for Kids Help Phone on May 2 and invites others in the real estate industry, clients and friends to play for the kids at the upcoming Chicks with Sticks Ladies Charity Golf Tournament.
“I became involved with the Kids Help Phone because I wanted to help raise awareness of their very-needed services and be a part of raising money for continued free phone counselling 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Children can phone if they are lonely, abused, bullied, addicted, scared, confused or just need to speak with a counsellor.”
Jill notes that the Kids Help Phone does not receive any core government or United Way funding so events like the walks and golf tournaments are essential. Jill raised $700 in the Abbotsford event this spring. Overall, the outpouring of support was impressive: the Vancouver and Abbotsford walks raised $155,000 and Canadians in numerous communities collected a total of $2.5 million to assist children in distress.
In terms of giving back to her community, Jill is a seasoned volunteer. She worked with the Touchstone Family Association for five years before accepting a volunteer position with the Kids Help Phone. In addition to participating in fundraising events, she works on the “Chicks with Sticks” subcommittee. Vancouver’s 13th Annual Kids Help Phone Chicks with Sticks Ladies Charity Golf Tournament takes place on August 26 at the Country Meadows Golf Club in Richmond. The $240 entry fee includes a buffet breakfast, dinner, snacks, 18 holes of golf and a chance to win great prizes including WestJet tickets.
