Sutton Select Sluggers are 2010 Slo-Pitch Champions
London, ON – Working as a team and having a great attitude were the keys to success for Sutton Group – Select Realty Inc.* in the recent London and St. Thomas Association of REALTORS® Slo-Pitch Tournament. The event attracted more than 150 REALTORS® on 10 teams. Interestingly, the final game was against friendly rivals from Sutton Group – Preferred Realty Inc.*. Bruce Sworik, the Broker of Record who sponsored the Sutton Select Sluggers, credits their team spirit and enthusiasm for their first tournament victory in a decade. One of his team members, Paula Hodgson, received the 2010 Bob Eaton Sportsmanship Award.
Team captain, Angela Wilson, notes that despite the heat, Paula’s upbeat spirit never wavered. “Paula did really well. She tried her hardest and cheered on everybody. We don’t have any exceptionally good players; we just played really well together. We worked as a team and it probably helps that we’ve played together in several tournaments.” The Sutton Select Sluggers consisted of 19 players including 15 REALTORS® from Sutton Group – Select Realty Inc.*. Bruce has sponsored the team’s tournament fees and t-shirts for the past 10 years.
This summer’s tournament took place at Slow Pitch City in Dorchester, a community near London. This venue is very familiar to the team captain. Angela has played on a women’s team for more than 10 years with most games held at the Dorchester facility. As a sponsor of her team, she helps with paying the annual fees of approximately $2,700 for 14 players. In recognition of her contribution, the team name is Angela Wilson – Sutton Select. However, on the front of the shirts is Shelley’s Girls.
“We had a woman on our team who passed away. Shelley was a really good friend to many of us. It was a year ago January that she lost her fight with cancer. She was only 40-years-old and a single mother. We always want to remember her amazing spirit so my name is on the back of the shirts but we put Shelley’s Girls on the front of the shirts.”
