Balsam Lake, ON – This year’s Duck Derby went swimmingly with record sales and spectator turnout.  Bobbing along from Shadow Lake under the bridge to Balsam Lake, 1,400 yellow, rubber ducks meandered to the finish line.  Crowds followed along from the shore, cheering on their racers in the August 1 derby.  This is the twelfth year in a row that Sutton Group – Kawartha Lakes Realty Inc.* has accommodated the United Way and Coboconk Lions Club for the event.  They set-up a new food preparation trailer in the parking lot and used the office for ticket sales and prizes.

Broker of Record Grace Cork is an enthusiastic supporter of this annual event: “It’s marvellous!  I was more than happy to let the United Way and Lions Club use our parking lot and office again this year.  The Duck Derby brings many visitors into town and raises money for very worthy causes.  On a summer’s day, it’s a great reason for people to get together, enjoy a hamburger and listen to music in the streets.”

Earlier this summer, Grace donated $500 on behalf of Sutton Group – Kawartha Lakes Realty Inc.* to help the Coboconk Lions Club purchase their new food preparation trailer.  “Our donation allowed them to purchase the trailer.  It’s much more convenient for them to use it instead of bringing in barbeques and carloads of supplies.”

Deb Bartlett, a Campaign Leader with the United Way in Kawartha, notes: “We couldn’t do it without the continued support of Grace Cork and her REALTORS®”.  Deb estimates that the event raised $4,000, which will be distributed to registered charities associated with the United Way and Coboconk Lions Club.  “The winner with the first place duck received $500 and a prize like that makes it an especially exciting race!  We had volunteers along the route and at the finish line to spot the winner and to collect all the ducks for next year.”
