“Hit and Giggle” Event Raises $5,000 for the Food Bank
Kingston, ON – Bob Steacy, a REALTOR® at Sutton Group – Masters Realty Inc.*, has once again taken action to help ensure that children and struggling families in his community have enough to eat. The Second Annual Hit and Giggle Golf Tournament on August 26 raised $5,000 for the Partners in Mission Food Bank of Kingston bringing the two-year fundraising total to $8,000. Bob took the initiative to organize and promote the golf tournament. He is pleased with the healthy turnout (90 golfers this year compared with 68 last year) and the generous support of many sponsors.
“We are all in a country that is struggling economically and the hardest hit are the charities that don’t receive any provincial or federal funding. It was a wake up call for me that even in Canada children still go off to school hungry—that needs to be corrected. I started this golf tournament last year to benefit the local food bank. As a fourth generation Kingstonian and having many contacts, I thought the time was right to step up and organize this event. My office suspended their golf tournament, which I chaired for two years and which raised thousands of dollars for Juvenile Diabetes.”
As a “committee of one” for this event, Bob went the distance to maximize the charitable contribution. He obtained 14 hole sponsorships at $100 each, a $5,000 hole-in-one prize and “a table full of prizes”. The 50/50 draw raised $500 and the silent auction raised $900. The winning group of Jamie McLaughlin, Pat McLaughlin, Vincent McLaughlin and Joe Percy scored an impressive 12 under par.
In addition to a day of great golf for charity, the event had a touch of celebrity appeal. One participant was Jim Dorey, a retired hockey defenseman who played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and New York Rangers. Now living in his hometown of Kingston, Jim recently established Dorey & Tolgyesi Insurance Brokers Ltd.
