Winnipeg, MB – On March 14, at the annual general meeting of the Manitoba Real Estate Association (MREA), Sheldon Zamick was pleasantly surprised to hear his name called in relation to the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Distinguished REALTOR® Award.  Sheldon is a Director of Winnipeg REALTORS®, a member of MREA since 1986 and an Alternate Broker at Sutton Group – Kilkenny Real Estate.  He has been with Sutton since 1997.  Award presenter and CMHC representative Lynn Power made special note of Sheldon’s professionalism and volunteer contributions, which currently include working on behalf of the MREA Shelter Foundation and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.

“I am very honoured to have been selected for the CMHC Distinguished REALTOR® Award and I think a lot of people in Winnipeg will be happy to learn that a recipient was chosen from our community,” says Sheldon.  “What I strive to do is elevate the status of REALTORS® overall and make people aware of how much we really care about our society.  REALTORS® are doing great things every day in communities across Canada.”

Over the years, Sheldon has given his time to a large number of charitable organizations including Habitat for Humanity, Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Jewish National Fund of Canada, United Way of Winnipeg, Mount Carmel Clinic, Variety Club, Muscular Dystrophy Association telethon, and the Charleswood Lions Seniors Centre.

One of his current passions is chairing the national REALTOR® campaign for the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.  The goal is to raise $2 million to sponsor the lobby and have the “R” symbol permanently ensconced in the structure.  So far, $1.7 million has been raised and the building is scheduled to open by 2014.  “If we can reach our goal of $2 million and have the “R” in the lobby, people from all over the world will see that REALTORS® really care.”  In recent years, Sheldon has been campaigning diligently to encourage involvement from colleagues and real estate boards and associations.

As a member of the board of governors for the MREA Shelter Foundation, Sheldon is striving to protect human dignity in the most basic and necessary sense: housing.  The foundation has raised funds for Habitat for Humanity, contributed to the construction of a home in Portage la Prairie with a lift for people with mobility problems, and donated to Ester House, a safe environment for people struggling to overcome addiction.
