Southampton, ON The Rotary Club’s 17th Annual Jeff Preston Celebrity Golf Tournament is scheduled for July 13, 2012 at the Saugeen Golf Club in picturesque Port Elgin.  Brian Shular, a Rotary member and Broker at Sutton – Huron Shores Realty Inc.*, is asking for assistance in boosting the celebrity roster.  So far, the event has attracted hockey players and community leaders but organizers are hoping for an even longer list of celebrities to help generate a good turnout.  All proceeds will benefit the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Association.  During its history, this tournament has raised more than $1 million including government grants.

“Normally, it’s not possible to just pick up a phone and speak directly with a celebrity; you need a connection,” says Brian.  “If you know a celebrity who would like to participate, please let me know.  The Rotary Club will send them a nice invitation letter and they’ll be able to enjoy a free game of golf and dinner.”

“There will also be a free wine and cheese gathering with a silent auction the night before the tournament.  All players and celebrities are welcome.  It will be a good chance to network and rub shoulders with a variety of well-known people.”

Past celebrity guests have included Toronto Maple Leafs legends Johnny Bower and Bobby Baun; CFL Hall of Fame inductee Jerry ‘Soupy’ Campbell; local hockey stars Brett MacLean and Curtis Sanford; Bruce Power, President and CEO of Duncan Hawthorne; CAW past presidents Bob White and Buzz Hargrove, and many others.

This event is named for a young Port Elgin resident, Jeff Preston, who unfortunately was stricken with MS at a young age.  At one time, he was the poster child for the MS Association.  His presence at the tournament each year puts a face to this complex illness and gives people a chance to learn more about the work of the MS Association.
