Toronto, ON – Any charitable organization that can find volunteers who are reliable and who readily share their skills and enthusiasm would consider itself fortunate.  Ekta Dade, a REALTOR® at Sutton Group – Central Realty Inc.* has offered her time and talents to three organizations!  Despite a busy schedule, she makes time to be regularly involved at a local food bank, charity walks and training single mothers in essential business skills.  For Ekta, her efforts are not for personal reward.  She is simply part of a network that is moving her community forward to something more positive.

“I recently completed a charity event called Walk for Values to help support an organization which strives for universal peace,” says Ekta.  “This walk happens in several cities across Canada yearly.  Walk for Values was started by Toronto’s Sathya Sai School for children.  The walk is not a money-raiser but rather an opportunity for society to come together to support one another and work towards one goal, and that is peace.”

Ekta also puts peace into action through her two other volunteer projects.  Each Tuesday, she greets hungry and malnourished neighbours at the Eden Community Food Bank in Mississauga.  This food bank assists more than 1,100 adults and children each month.  The most recent survey of the Greater Toronto Area in 2008, at the beginning of the recession, found that 13 per cent of children go hungry at least once a week.

Ekta spends the better part of each Tuesday preparing produce and dry goods for pickup and serving clients.  “I have seen what a difference healthy food can make to adults and children,” says Ekta.  “Donating even one food item is better than nothing.  Eden Food Bank accepts donations at 3051 Battleford Road from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday.  They also encourage gardeners to plant a row for the food bank and drop off extra produce.  Fresh fruits and vegetables are often a luxury that our clients cannot afford so it is very much appreciated.”

This REALTOR® also volunteers at a new organization called Single Mothers in Progress.  “We aim to support single mothers that have suffered abuse, drug addiction or require financial help to make their children’s lives better.  We hold seminars that aid in work ethics, job finding techniques, resume writing, self esteem, etc.  We are growing our program list to include computer training and other specialized skills.”
