Paddle and Canoe Art Auction
Huntsville, ON – The Algonquin Outfitters’ bi-annual Paddle Art Auction gives Canadians an opportunity to own original art that celebrates the history and beauty of the Muskoka lakes region while raising funds for arts and cultural organizations.
This online auction will run from October 23rd to November 12th and will feature works donated by mostly local artists.
A highlight will be canoes featuring stunning, three-dimensional interpretations of paintings by the Group of Seven and Tom Thomson. These works are the culmination of more than three years of experimentation, collaboration and dedication.
Gerry Lantaigne, a REALTOR® with Sutton Group - Muskoka Realty Inc., graduate of the Ontario College of Art, and an incredibly gifted artist, was commissioned in 2020 to paint several canoes as a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Group of Seven’s first show. These canoes were included in the 2021 Algonquin Outfitters Paddle Art Auction helping to raise over $25,000 for local organizations. Gerry also served as the Art Director for the Huntsville Festival of the Arts.
Beginning this June in River Mill Park, Gerry set to work on a new canoe project sharing his passion and knowledge with several other talented artists. Together they have produced murals on canoes that capture the spirit and beauty of paintings by Tom Thomson.
These canoes have been exhibited for free in the park during the summer then move to the ECLIPSE Light Walk at Muskoka Heritage Place. After these exhibitions, the canoes will be included in the 2024 Algonquin Outfitters Paddle Art Auction.
Each year, non-profit organizations apply for funding from the auction. Proceeds of this autumn’s fundraiser will support the Huntsville Arts Society, Huntsville Festival of the Arts, The Canadian Canoe Museum, INDSPIRE, and Oxtongue Lake for Arts and Culture.
