Oakville, ON – Sutton Group – Quantum Realty* recently presented a cheque for $1,000 to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. This donation consisted of contributions from the REALTORS® and Broker of Record Tina Gardin. In the spirit of giving, the team decided to hold a collection at their annual holiday gathering. Tina was pleased to see that as they celebrated another productive year, they also remembered others. Approximately one in 300 children are diagnosed with diabetes each year in Canada.

“On behalf of our Brokerage and our generous REALTORS®, we are so happy to help this amazing cause,” say Tina Gardin, Broker of Record.

Tina and several sales associates had the honour of presenting the cheque to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) on January 28, 2020.

Diabetes touches many lives. According to the Government of Canada, approximately 3 million Canadians (or 8.1% of the population) were living with diagnosed diabetes in 2013–2014, representing one in 300 children and youth ages one to 19 years.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is a leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. “T1D is an autoimmune disease that strikes both children and adults suddenly,” notes the JDRF website. “It has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. There is nothing you can do to prevent it. And, at present, there is no cure.”

In T1D, the pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone the body needs to get energy from food. People with T1D inject insulin, but this is not a cure. Even with diligent monitoring of blood sugar levels, there are fluctuations, which put people at risk for long-term complications such as kidney failure, heart attack, stroke, blindness and amputation.

Over the years, Sutton Group – Quantum Realty* has supported numerous causes including the Oakville Gallery through the Dinner in Gairloch Gardens event. They also held special client appreciation draws. In 2016, for Sutton Quantum’s Driveaway Car Giveaway Contest, a lucky client won a brand-new Fiat; in 2017, for Sutton Quantum’s Cash Giveaway, clients won more than $30,000 in cash!
