B.C. – Do you want to tango with a turkey (well, sort of), see artists floating on the lake as they paint and make music, help people with disabilities enjoy nature, educate the public about local flora and fauna, or give someone a leg up in their career? Volunteers make it all possible. This summer, organized sports and major events are still largely on hold, but you can socialize, network, and have a memorable, new experience through these unique opportunities:

 Tango with a turkey at the Harrison Festival of the Arts: The Farm Edition scheduled for July 10–18, 2021. This scaled back event will be limited to 50 attendees at any time. There will be musical performances, food, arts and crafts. Volunteer spots are filling up fast; apply online at https://harrisonfestival.com/get-involved/.

Adaptive Adventures by the Community Recreational Initiatives Society helps people with varying abilities enjoy hiking, cycling, paddling, and fishing. Volunteers work as a team and receive training on specialized equipment. To participate in Vernon or Kelowna, visit www.adaptiveadventures.ca.

Do you want to ensure that artists and musicians can display their talents on the water during Art on the Lake, protect biodiversity, or help people with disabilities enjoy the outdoors? Learn about local flora and fauna as a Nature Assistant with the Regional District of the Central Okanagan. You will assist Park Interpreters deliver the Tracks Walking group and Wild Walks programs. For details, email the coordinator at park.volunteers@rdco.com.

The Agassiz-Harrison Museum & Visitor Centre, which is a short drive from beautiful Harrison Hot Springs, has fascinating indoor and outdoor exhibits.
