ON – Do you have a passion for improving your community by influencing the distribution of public funds, being a health care hero’s sidekick, saving injured wildlife, or assisting women and children who are fleeing abuse? In as little as two hours, you can make a real difference as a volunteer. In the spotlight this week are some of the many charities and non-profit organizations urgently in need of assistance in central Ontario.

COVID-19 vaccination clinics in the Sudbury area require volunteers to help with registration, guiding clients to waiting areas, set-up, etc. Apply online with Public Health Sudbury and Districts at www.phsd.ca.

The United Way of Kingston is holding its 20th annual Day of Caring on June 11, 2021. The event is a fun, action-oriented experience; people can participate virtually, in-person (at outdoor activities such as gardening and renovations) or donate items through a donation drive. Learn more at www.unitedwaykfla.ca/dayofcaring.

Shelter Movers of Ottawa is a volunteer-based charitable organization that provides moving and storage services at no cost to women and children experiencing abuse. This organization is currently seeking virtual volunteers to contribute two to three hours per week as coordinators of Fund Development Events and Donor Engagement. For more details, visit www.volunteerottawa.ca or email volunteerottawa@sheltermovers.com.

The Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary in Muskoka rehabilitates injured and orphaned animals and is home to numerous permanent residents including lynx, bears, moose, foxes and bobcats. This sanctuary relies entirely on private donations and volunteers to feed and care for animals, fundraise, transfer animals and serve as tour guides. To learn more, visit www.aspenvalley.ca.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation is looking for Grant Review team members. Up to 336 volunteers are chosen from 16 geographically based catchment areas to help determine how public funds will be granted to important causes. Volunteers should have a knowledge of their communities, advanced computer skills and be able to commit time to reviewing applications and attending meetings three to four times per year.
