The Beauty in our Backyards

Whister, B.C – Black bears are almost daily visitors to Lisa Ashcroft’s backyard, and she is occasionally treated to sightings of bobcat and lynx. In 38 years of living in Whistler, she has never had a negative encounter with wildlife. She feels fortunate to live next to mountains, lakes, and a wealth of flora and fauna in this part of beautiful British Columbia.

“These things can not be taken for granted and I believe doing even a little bit helps and potentially inspires others,” Lisa says.

For the past four decades, she has contributed regularly to the World Wildlife Fund and Greenpeace Canada. In her daily life, she makes choices to reduce her environmental footprint doing her best to protect nature for future generations.

Lisa also actively supports the BC Cancer Foundation, BC Children's Hospital, Spinal Cord Injury BC, and Covenant House.

“I am especially passionate about Covenant House since having my own children 20-plus years ago. It breaks my heart to see and hear what challenges some children have to endure.”

Each winter, she delivers a load of ski jackets, gloves, and warm clothes to Covenant House. As a REALTOR® for the past 13 years, she also participates in the annual Realtors CARE® Blanket Drive and typically gathers another full load to help homeless people in metro Vancouver.

To do this, she reaches out to her network of friends, family, and clients. Her mother was in the clothing business until recently and has been generous over the years. Her sister, Kirsten, was a torch bearer on the Peak-to-Peak Gondola route for the 2010 Paralympics; she regularly contributes and helps to spread the word. Lisa’s clients are also supportive; they often clean out their closets and donate clothing when they list their homes.
