Nova Scotia in the Spotlight
CANADA – From coast to coast, the Sutton community has helped to rescue wildlife, protect the environment, support the many frontline workers who keep us safe, feed the hungry and make life better for people facing a variety of challenges. Now, due to illness, travel restrictions, social isolation and job loss, the need is greater than ever. Charities desperately need your help. In the spotlight this week are those with urgent requests in Nova Scotia.
Halifax Meals on Wheels delivers nutritious, tasty meals to people who are unable to prepare their own. Every weekday, this non-profit relies on volunteers to package from approximately 9-10 a.m., then runners and drivers make deliveries from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Shifts are short and organizers will accommodate real estate professionals who may have schedule changes due to appointments. For more details, please contact info@halifaxmealsonwheels.ca.
Although it may look different than in previous years, the Ride for Cancer will take place on October 3, 2020. Organizers are planning different scenarios to deal with the evolving pandemic and are committed to host the event and do so safely. All proceeds will be used to care for cancer patients. If you are looking for fundraising tips, inspiration or support, book a ‘Virtual Kick-Off Zoom call’ for you and your team with a Ride expert. Alcare Place is dedicated to helping men recover from addiction to alcohol, drugs and gambling. The house opened in the heart of Halifax in 1987 and takes a client-centred, holistic approach to recovery for up to 11 residents at a time. Alcare Place is looking for volunteers to assist with fundraising, administration, landscaping and repairs.
This non-profit will gratefully accept new or gently used cooking utensils, pots, pans, dishes, glassware, small appliances, tools, men's clothing and footwear. The following items should be new in their original packaging: bedding, towels, facecloths, soap, razers, shaving cream, toothpaste and toothbrushes.
