Full Bellies and Warm Hearts
Surrey, B.C. – Even until the last days of the year, the team at Sutton - Premier Realty continues to remember people in need in their community. At a recent Christmas party, they raised $600 to fund multiple charitable projects including contributions to their local food bank.
Every few months, several volunteers from this office deliver cash and non-perishable food to the Surrey Food Bank, then work a four-hour shift organizing the warehouse and preparing packages for distribution. Nearly 14,000 people per month rely on this food bank to meet their basic caloric needs.
The charity’s clientele range in age from newborn infants to the elderly. Many working parents rely on the food bank since wages have not kept pace with the rising costs of housing, food, transportation, daycare, etc.
For several years, Sutton - Premier Realty participated in the Surrey Christmas Bureau’s Adopt a Family project. They purchased toys, stocking stuffers, grocery store gift cards, and the ingredients for holiday meals to feed children who would otherwise go without.
The Surrey Christmas Bureau desperately needs donations, particularly items for girls ages 9 to 12 as well as teens. Suggestions include blow dryers, straighteners, shavers, personal grooming kits, portable chargers, and headphones. Donations can be brought to any fire hall in Surrey, or the Toy Depot located in the former Canadian Tire in Central Surrey at 13665 – 102 Ave. The depot closes for the season at 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 23rd.
Bring on the Balls is Sutton - Premier Realty’s unique campaign to deliver car loads full of sports balls for teenagers participating in the Surrey Christmas Bureau. Sadly, this year, the challenges of the economy and the difficulty of finding sports balls put this project on hold, but that doesn’t mean the team is any less dedicated to young people.
Several people from this office, including Broker Larry Anderson, regularly visit Harold Bishop Elementary to deliver gift cards that the school principal can distribute to parents who are having trouble feeding their children. A favourite part of the visit is playing basketball or other sports with the students; it’s a fun way for young people to interact with positive role models from their own neighbourhood.
