Climbing to New Heights

West Vancouver, B.C. – Aman Nouri and his wife and business partner Azita began hiking the mountains near their North Vancouver home thirty years ago. They discovered alpine meadows, spectacular views, and a new pastime that would take them around the world and expand their social network.

Aman began to explore mountaineering after a decade of hiking and trekking with Azita. “Climbing is more challenging,” he says. “It offers more pleasure, and you test yourself and push yourself.”

Aman made his first Himalayan climb in 2002 and the following year Azita and her husband ascended Mt. Kilimanjaro together. The next year, Aman again went to the Everest region of the Himalaya and climbed Mt. Ama Dablam (22,349 ft.) with an expedition group. He followed that with ascents of Mt. Baker (10,778 ft.) and Mt. Rainier (14,411 ft.) in Washington State. In the spring of 2006, Aman and Azita headed for the Himalayas and both climbed Mt. Kala Patthar (18,192 ft). In 2008, Aman climbed Mt. Aconcagua (22,841 ft.), which is the highest mountain in the Americas.

From their first perilous climbs in Tanzania and Nepal, Aman and Azita felt a deep sense of gratitude to their brave sherpas (guides). They decided to help educate the guides’ children and have been sending monetary gifts for many years.

Since 2008, Aman has also been volunteering in the Vancouver area to train climbers for their own adventures. Many of them have gone on to achieve their quests, which have included Mt. Everest.

“Climbing is his passion,” Azita says, “and he wants to share it.” Aman adds: “It’s about reaching new heights, teamwork, setting your goals and doing your best to reach them.”

In addition to physical strength and stamina, mountaineering requires courage and confidence—two qualities that have helped the couple become an effective real estate team.
