Inspired Art and Music

Huntsville, ON – Art lovers are already buzzing about the upcoming works in the Algonquin Outfitters Paddle Art Contests auction, which takes place in each autumn. Proceeds of the auction help to fund school art programs, public acquisitions, museums, and galleries.

Gerry Lantaigne is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art, an incredibly gifted artist, and a REALTOR® with Sutton Group - Muskoka Realty Inc. He supports the Algonquin Outfitters Paddle Art Contests auction as an artist and mentor.

This spring and summer, Gerry decided to let new artists to step into the spotlight. Instead of creating artwork for the auction, he is teaching others how to use this special paint and to work on curved canoe surfaces. He may just be Canada’s most experienced professional artist in this medium.

Gerry also gained experience painting canoes for the Huntsville Festival of the Arts.  From 2020 to 2021, he interpreted the works of Tom Thomson on the sides of seven canoes (and also served as the Art Director for the festival). Tom Thomson was associated with the Group of Seven. In the early 1900s, these artists famously captured Canadian landscapes including the picturesque lakes of the Muskoka region. 

Gerry has been invited to join three other artists in the Art Challenge for Hospice, which is set to take place this autumn. The plan is to have each artist start and finish a painting during the event so that guests can watch them work. The challenge will culminate in an auction of the artworks to raise money for Hospice Huntsville.   

Always willing to push his creative boundaries, Gerry recently discovered music. “I have taught myself how to play the flute over the past year and donated some performance time to the Hike for Huntsville Hospice,” says Gerry. “It was my first public performance and was very fun.”
