Turning Type 1 into Type None!
Delta, B.C – Sue Gordon’s daughter Abby was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was just eight years old. With care from her family and advancements in medicine, she has grown up to become an exceptional, Dean’s List student at Queen’s University.
Her mother knows it would not be possible for Abby to enjoy her active, independent lifestyle without the option of wearing a pump and continuous glucose monitor. Uncontrolled diabetes can result in damage to the nerves, kidneys, eyes, and heart.
Abby’s success story has inspired Sue to make a difference for everyone diagnosed with the life-changing condition. This REALTOR® with Sutton Group - Seafair Realty donates a portion of every transaction to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, now know simply as JDRF.
“JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research,” says Sue. “I have made a commitment to JDRF to donate a percentage of my commissions. At times, it’s through supporting riders in the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes, or through a team in the Sun Life Walk to Cure Diabetes. Financial aid is needed throughout the year, so I don’t limit it to a specific time; any day is a great day to donate.”
National Diabetes Awareness month in November was an opportunity for Sue to raise awareness of a disease that mainly strikes children. “Turning Type 1 into Type NONE is what I am striving for, and I know my donations are making a difference with research!
