Warmth and Joy this Winter

Surrey, B.C – The 28th annual REALTORS Care® Blanket Drive in November involved the coordinated effort of thousands of sales associates at more 100 offices across the Lower Mainland. They collected enough blankets, coats, clothing, and other donations to bring comfort to approximately 35,000 people, including the working poor whose struggles are even greater this winter due to inflation.
A shining example is Sutton Group - Alliance Real Estate Services Ltd. in Surrey where the dedicated team donated 116 brand new coats and 71 pairs of shoes to the Surrey Memorial Hospital to keep people warm and healthy after they are discharged. As well, they donated 30 bags of winter clothing to the Surrey Urban Mission, which serves people who are un-housed or struggling to overcome addiction.
One of the sales associates at this office is Baljit S. Sandhu—a 19-year participant of the blanket drive. He frequently serves as an Area Coordinator and delivers items to charities.

Giving back to the community is a way of life for Baljit. In addition to participating in the Blanket Drive, he has volunteered at the Surrey Memorial Hospital for 22 years.
“I volunteer in the Welcome and Wayfinding department of the Surrey Memorial Hospital to help patients and visitors locate their specific department for appointment or medical check-up,” says Baljit. “It was very challenging due to COVID, but it felt good that I helped.”
Baljit frees up time for hospital staff to focus on medical care and his multi-lingual skills are especially useful when assisting patients and visitors in this diverse community.
