$25,000 to Woodstock Hospital

Woodstock, ON – One man’s health challenges have inspired an event that will help many patients and potentially save lives. The story began nearly 20 years ago, when Oscar Cruz Ventura joined Sutton Group Right Way Real Estate (2007) Inc. as a REALTOR®. With his friendly nature and professionalism, he became a valued team member.
In 2015, he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), a disorder in which the body's immune system attacks the protective covering of the nerve cells in the brain, optic nerve, and spinal column. There is currently no cure for MS.
Oscar was forced to give up his real estate career two years later due to reduced mobility. Last winter, he travelled to Mexico for a stem cell transplant in hopes of regaining some mobility. When he returned home in February, he suffered complications and required care at the Woodstock Hospital.
Laurie Nicholson, the Manager at Sutton Group Right Way, was inspired by Oscar’s bravery and the quality of care he received at their local hospital.
“On October 1, 2022, we held a golf tournament in honour of Oscar,” Laurie says. “I have wanted to put on a Sutton charity golf tournament for a long time and decided this year that our office will do this for Oscar and the funds raised will go to the Woodstock Hospital.”
Running a successful charity golf tournament involves careful planning, promotion, and the enthusiastic participation of golfers and volunteers. Fortunately, Laurie had incredible support from everyone at her office.
“Together with golfers, volunteers, and donors, we were able to raise a whopping $25,000 to donate to the hospital. We were all so overwhelmed! Oscar spent the day travelling around the golf course at Oxford Hills with a huge smile on his face. It was amazing for everyone to visit him throughout the day. We will do this annually.”
